Many Littles speak more than one language

Posted by

Many Littles speak more than one language, or may not use English as their first or primary language.  Bigs can help these students by exposing them to the English language orally, perhaps writing out some words that are new to them or are interesting or have useful or fun meanings.  Writing down words as they use them helps students build language confidence.  It is also helpful to label items, which will increase the chances that a Little will retain the word in their vocabulary.  In addition, during TV time, try turning on the closed caption option. The words across the screen will reinforce what is being spoken and increase oral and written proficiency.  Have them teach you their versions of words as well.
