Take an interest in the arts with your Little. We know that involvement or enjoyment of the performing arts usually goes hand in hand with understanding and interpreting written texts and improved school performance. If you attend a live performance, be sure to get a program and have your Little read parts of it to you. Look up analysis or description of the piece before or after the performance and talk about how the accompanying fits in with the performance or whether you agree with reviews you read. Students love field trips, but these are becoming rarer in today’s school schedules. Remember, many Littles get almost no arts exposure at school, yet almost all Littles report enjoying music, pictures, sculpture, buildings, and arts excursions. Plan your own field trip!
