Spend some of your time together in a book store

If your high school Little is hoping to go to college–or you are encouraging your Little to think about college, spend some of your time together in a book store in the college reference section. The section is usually small, and you will find several helpful titles such as books of possible majors.  One of the best activities is sitting with one of the large information books that has an information summary on all colleges, usually by state.  Have your little be the “researcher,” and you compile a chart on several possible or intriguing schools that includes number of students applied, number admitted, average SAT/ACT score, application deadline, cost for tuition, and cost for room and board.  Have your student pick a hypothetical major and then look in the areas of study list to see if it is there.  Ask the Educational Initiatives Team about scheduling a college advice session as one of your activities.
